Welcome to JosLyn Chihuahuas
JosLyn Chihuahuas is a small kennel located in the home of John (JOSeph) and Patti (LYNn) Penrod, in Memphis Tennessee. They are committed to caring for, raising, and showing AKC registered Long and Smooth Coat Chihuahuas according to the Official Standard set by the Chihuahua Club of America and adopted by the American Kennel Club. They don't do this for profit, but for the pure enjoyment and love of this little breed.
It started in 1982 when Patti adopted a Chihuahua mix from the local Humane Society in Phoenix, AZ. Ponch was very loving, intelligent, and energetic, and like a little four-legged brother to Christy, Patti's four-year-old daughter. After moving to Sumter, South Carolina for a military assignment, it was a natural next step that she bought another Chihuahua puppy, this one AKC registered. Little Tiffani Ann joined the family.
Nine years later Patti met John, and a few things changed. The newlyweds moved to Greenville, SC. Not knowing what the living situation would entail, and since they had a good friend who loved him, Ponch stayed in Sumter. That next year John gave Patti another Chihuahua puppy for Christmas. Tiffi, at eleven years old, wasn't too excited to share her domain, but gracefully tolerated the playful attentions of the new baby, Little Chelsea Leah.
About three years passed and the Penrod's decided to move to Phoenix, AZ. where Patti's parents we living. Tiffi was fourteen by this time, and in very poor health. She was deaf, nearly blind, had several tumors, and was in constant pain. Patti felt she would not be able to survive the trip so they made the painful decision to say goodbye to her. It was the hardest thing they have ever had to do. Christy, who was married, stayed in Greenville with her husband and new baby. John, Patti and Chelsea were off to new adventures.
In Phoenix, Chelsea was so sad from missing Tiffi, that it was decided to get another Chihuahua for company for her. They contacted Barbara K. Smith, of BK's Chihuahuas in Mesa, AZ, and entered a world they'd never dreamed of. They met a kennel full of beautiful, crazy, loving little Chihuahuas, picked a pretty long coat girl named BK's Minimax (Mini), and decided to give the dog show thing a try.
They started showing Mini and became addicted to the sport from the very start. When a great job opportunity opened in Memphis, TN, closer to John's aging parents, the Penrod's moved once again. To their delight, they discovered even more dog shows were available from this central location in the country. Since then they have had the pleasure of meeting several other breeders who have made tremendous contributions to this captivating breed.
The rest is history as they acquired more of these crazy little bundles of energy. JosLyn Chihuahuas was conceived, and eventually realized with Mini's first litter. Now they enjoy showing their latest puppies and other client dogs, have a whole house full of wonderful, beautiful, silly little fur kids, and love each one for it's own unique personality. On January 18, 2003, the Penrod's finished their first Champion, CH Chisholm Dog Gone Impressive.
